Default New Notebook

Hey I'm in the market for a new notebook, the thinkpad X300 looks great but its way to expensive so i need some similar, w/out the SSD maybe?

to clarify what I'm looking for is:
1) must be under $1500 (canadian)
2) must be very to ultra portable
3) must have a screen larger then 11 inches
4) it would be nice if it could run some nice GIS (similar to CAD)
5) it would be nice for it to have a fast boot time
6) it would be nice for it to have a large battery life

if anyone could help me find something that would be great

FTB

If you want a decent small laptop look at the Dell Latitude D430. It's not massively powerful but the battery lasts for hours. For CAD-ish work it'll struggle like many smaller laptops.

The thing about Thinkpad's and Latitudes are that they have great build quality. That is one reason they are more expensive than say an ideapad or inspiron. You pay for good warranties and usability.

It looks really good from the possible specs, but what are you going to get with it?

If you go here you can customize it.

For $1495 us dollars (don't know how to find this in canadian) I got a 2.4ghz processor, vista and xp, 3 year warranty, 120gb 7200rpm hard drive, dvd burner. It doesn't have the best graphics card, but it should be ok if you don't plan on gaming.

If you can go a little over $1500 cad, I would strongly recommend upgrading the ram to 2.0gb's and the processor to 2.4ghz. That will put it at $1559.

Don't buy a Dell they are heavy, bulky and made with crap parts. If you want a PC I suggest Asus, HP business class, or Toshiba. I have had great experiences with all of them.

However, if I were you I would probably just buy a Macbook and call it a day, but that is just me.
