Default my pc is freezing after reformatting hard drive ?

found a virus/ trojan win32.monderc.gen

zone alarm and other anti virus softwares couldnt remove it so i saved my data and formatted the hard drive on a different computer. after installing a fresh copy of windows xp pro sp2 i took the hard drive and connected it to the original computer however it finds the hard drive but after posting it takes me to an option menu saying safe mode, start windows normally, which ever one i click on it just freezes.

whats happened there ?

its a p3 1ghz computer 800mb ram.

i think when you re install windows you need to do it on the system you intend to use it on as windows will load all the drivers for the other computer which are no good to yours unless its identicle!

thats the way ive always done it

OK,

if you want XP on a computer, you have to install Xp on that computer, you can't install it on another and then put the hard drive in the computer and expect it to work, i learnt the hard way, by destroying my OS!

Yes you can, but you need to re-Activate it, uninstall all the Drivers for the old MoBo, then reinstall the Drivers for the new MoBo.

well ive managed to boot from cd on the original pc and ive formatted the hard drive on that same original pc which had the virus , however after formatting i proceeded to install xp after it copied the installation files on to the hard drive it told me to reboot and then boot from hard drive now when i boot from hard drive it freezes.

ive never expereienced this in my life ive taken out the additional pci cards but kept the vital ones and yet still freezing.

what could be wrong?

I've sometimes had my PC freezing while loading Windows because of something wacky like having a certain DVD in a certain drive. Make sure all drives are empty and no USB sticks are plugged in.

You could try downloading and burning a Linux Live CD and see if that runs on the affected machine. That might tell you if it was a hardware fault but wouldn't say anything about the HD. You could install Linux and see if that runs, and if it does, then you know the PC is fine and can be reformatted. It's possible to have Linux and Windows on the same PC so you could access the Internet for help via Linux while trying to get Windows working. If you want to go down that route, I'd suggest openSUSE or Ubuntu.

What kind of system is the old one and what kind is the new one?

Did it copy the Installation files or actually install the system? They are two separate tasks. When you first load the CD and format, the next step is for the CD to copy all the Setup files to your system. After that, when the system reboots, just let it go - don't touch anything or press any keys. You'll get the 'press any key to boot from CD' prompt, but, again, don't touch anything. The main files needed at this point are already on your Hard Drive, and if you boot to the CD, you'll start the process over again.

perhaps doing a FULL format will solve the problem

after you installed xp did your computer connected to the net? probably got infected without antivirus and a good firewall installed
