Default More problems with new computer. Help.

My new computer that I built has had problems from day one.

most recently I've been trying to play a few games but I'm having plenty of problems.

In CoD4, after playing for anywhere from 15min to 50min, it will freeze and the only thing I can do is hold my power button down. Ctrl-alt-del and alt-tab do nothing. I thought that maybe it was a heat issue but I don't know how to find out for sure. I've dled. temp. reading software but it seems to think my comp. is not overheating. I really have no clue what to think about this.

Now, Mass Effect had it's problems with installing and then with starting up, but after a little troubleshooting I finally got into playing it. It was going fine, but now, all of a sudden it seems, i get an error when I hit 'play'. (This application failed to initialize properly). There's nothing in the readme file and I can't find help online yet. Again, I don't know what the problem is.

In gears of war I get the same message as Mass Effect, as well as Crysis wich used to run perfectly.

A few programs I've dled. recently wich may cause problems: Sunbelt firewall (I disable it before playing). AVG (I uninstalled it when I found out it was causing Mass Effect to crash)

Also, after logging into my computer, I get small freezes where I can't move my curser. these last for a few seconds but it never used to do that.

My specs

CPU - Intel quad core 2.4GHz
GPU - GeForce 8800Gt
Mobo - nforce 680i LT SLI ( I had problems with my Mobo. I found out the Ethernet connection was toast. I've been wondering if there could be more damage to the Mobo that may be causing some of these problems, but because the games and apps. had worked fine in the recent past, I figure it's more likely that it's software related. ??)

OS - Windows XP pro

If anyone thinks they can help but needs more info, please ask.

Any support is appreciated.

I'm considering installing a floppy drive so I can dl. WdClear to a floppy disc, clear my HD and start all my installations over again. It would be nice not to have to do that though. (Will clearing my HD and reinstalling windows be like starting from scratch, or will viruses and corruptions still be present?).

Default

You know, CPU - Intel quad core 2.4GHz and GPU - GeForce 8800Gt takes a lot of power in your power supply. Try and compute the power required by all of your hardwares. This problem is always overlooked by technicians and people trying to assemble their own PC. You might also wanna take your monitor out of your computer's power supply. This will lessen the power demand on your power supply.
