Unhappy Connecting a monitor to a laptop

i've just been given a lovely monitor, only problem is my laptop doesn't have a dvi port
The monitor's got three ports : an analog port, dvi and a component video.
Laptop's got analog & s-video.
I tried the analog cable that came w/the laptop but the monitor's not recognizing it. Are there cables/adapters that will solve my problem? I can't seem to find any online...
thanks!!

Thumbs up

Just rethinking it, you would need a VGA to DVI cable, because a DVI to VGA won't work in the monitor.

And i can't find a cable

well if you have an analog port on the monitor and the correct cord that goes to it, are you sure you set the settings correctly? you have to right click on your desktop, click properties, then go to display settings and enable a second monitor.

Check out those diagrams and they should give you some idea if you can convert your monitor or not... I may be wrong, but I was thinking as long as you had the pins for DVI-A, you should be able to use analog on the monitor.

I just tried it with my monitor, but after struggling with the converter, I realized I didn't have those analog "C" pins. I'm afraid this is the only monitor with DVI we have here or I'd try some others for you. My only other suggestion would be to confirm your laptop's video out is enabled.
