Default Possible virus??

About a week ago my friends computer started to load up incredibly slowly. Then whenever you try to connect to the internet it allows you access for a few minutes but then it kicks you off and the wireless network dissapears. Then randomly about 15-20 minutes later it reconnects and everything starts all over again. She has run spybot search and destroy it found problems and she fixed them but the computer still contiues to do the same thing. I do not know the exact make of the laptop. I know it runs off XP, has about 1.3ghz processor, 256mb ram and a 20gb hard drive.

I know a little bit about computer so 'm thinking it is some kind of virus. What should i do to help her?

well if it did just happen suddenly then yes it could be a virus... are you running any virus protection at the moment? if not then i suggest you download AVG free or something.
spybot is mainly for spyware and all that and is good to have, but needs to be running along side an antivirus program and firewall.

you will probably be asked to post a hijackthis log something soon, but as i really am not knowledgable enough to guide you through all that i wont bother.

I had similar problems after i installed a program. Try going to "Start" then "Run" and type in "msconfig" go to the "startup" tab and take off any programs that might be ig and slow down your computer on start up. There are also a couple other things you can do on that menu that can help speed up your start up process.

* Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
* Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
* By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
* Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
* Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
* Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
* At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
* Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
* Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
* Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
* Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
* DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
