Default Macro Lens

Anyone have one they would recommend for a Canon EOS 400D (Xti), looking to add another lens to my collection and would like to get a Macro lens to allow a lot more close work.

Whats your Budget?
I also might suggest buying some Kenko Extention Tubes, they run for around 160 new, but you can find some used for around 100.

I don't know which one you should take but do not take a tele macro lens like mine. I've read in a few maazines/websites that fixed focal lenght Macro lenses are better than tele macro.

Basically take a lens that stays at a focal length (50mm, 60mm etc) and not one where ou can change the focal lenght (180-300mm like my Tamron lens).

aye i was planning either a short focal range or a fixed focal range for a macro lens, the idea being that its for close work anyway so theres not really any need for the ability to zoom to far.

Not too worried about budget, would prefer not to go over £250-300 but will consider more for the right lens

The Sigma 105mm Macro is a great choice, check out these sample shots taken with it on this site: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=229362

Just go here if you want to see samples from more lenses: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=141406

And if you like getting REALLY close to things, definatly pick up the Kenko Extention tubes, they help A LOT. I will be picking some up myself when I gather up the money.

I've been reading some of the posts here as well, I have an XSi and I really want to get a macro lens, although the ones I found were quite expensive. Thanks for all the links to

Yeah, they can be very expensive.
The MPE65 is probably the "Macro Enthusiests" favorite macro lense, it's simply incredible (as it should be for over $800 )

You can even get the Tamron 28-75 2.8 macro (I have this lense, and it does 1:2 macro), slap on some kenko tubes an it works wonders.
Hell Ive even seen people put a full set of extention tubes onto the "NiftyFifty" (50mm 1.8) which sells for around $80 and get some amazing shots: some samples: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=148797

EDIT: Here's a link to the 28-75 2.8 lense I was talking about, sorry:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...2_8_XR_Di.html
I Love this lense.
Here are sample shots taken with it:
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=145586

You can also see samples with that lense by going to my flickr site in my sig, then go to the cars and hockey folders. all shots in those were taken with this lense.
