Default what protocol is this?

what is the name of the protocol that when lets say you connect to a hotel wireless and you dirrect your web browser to some page, it brings up a login and or makes you pay?

Um, I don't know that it's a protocol! I think it's just the hotel recognizing that you're trying to connect to their network, and they bring up a window to make you pay before you can connect.

thats just thier proxy at work - set up to redirect.
