Default formatting HD

is there a live cd i can use to format my HD

Gparted is the most widely-recognized tool, I would think. Any Live CD Linux Distro will have a version of it, or you can DL the actual tool via the gparted website

Also if you have a Windows XP/Vista CD, you can use that to erase, partition, and format your hard drive(s).
