Default GDDR5 memory

Why is ATI using this technology but not Nvidia? Nvidia isn't even using GDDR4, so what gives?

GDDR4 is much more expensive then either GDDR3 or even GDDR5, so ATI is just skipping it. I'm not sure if that's the only reason or not though.

i think it's more energy efficient, and obviously faster than gddr3

nvidia will be releasing new cards in the late fall that uses gddr5

thats one of the things im scared of....

I think a large part of the ATIs performance is due to the GDDR5...

Can you imagine if NVidia starts using it..

I am gonna buy the 4870, but if the boys in green release something cheap, with GDDR5 and that is better, ill shoot myself

and it's interesting that ATi have better memory on their cards and they cost way cheaper than Nvidia.

nvidia will be releasing their gddr5 dx10.1 cards in 2009 and here's an article on it. a lot of sites have good articles on it already. i remember something about 35nm architechure somewhere too, but it looks like its far off.

Not quite. The 4850s use GDDR3, and are killers neverthless, so you shouldn't worry about that too much. It's the new core...

"available until late 2009"

SOB!!! I might just have to postpone my next computer build that was originally planned for mid 2009.

Yeah, once Nvidia starts using this tech they will kill ATI, unless ATI comes out with GDDR16 or something the second Nvidia hits 5.
