Talking Workstation.

What would a system require to work the fastest with software such as AutoCAD?

Dual cpu's? lots of Ram?

is a dual cpu mobo classified as a server mobo?
with the exception of the skulltrail?

would Dual Xeon Quads do the trick?
some of the cpu's are pretty expensive... but would it be worth it?
what OS would be best for this sort of stuff?
im thinking 8GB ram as well.

also what would be better... a single cpu that is twice as expensive? or dual cpu's that are half as expensive... i would think 2 cpu's would perform better... but yeah

any thoughts on what a decent system for extreme performance with autocad would be?
thankyou

come on people. please help me?

these systems will be running autocad and maya 3d.
would the systems benefit from dual cpu's? and what would be a decent amount of ram for each?
money really isnt an issue but who wants to buy stuff if they dont really need it?
(apart from me buying a quad)

8 or 16 GB ram? this might be overkill. im just asking.

also what OS?

they dont sell XP anymore do they?
can you run the software mentioned on linux and would that be satisfactory?
or would vista ultimate/business 64-bit be the best?

as i said before... i would be wanting a quadro gpu right?

i think a skulltrail board would suffice, 8gb of fb-dimm buffered ram or something like that, vista ultimate 64 bit, look at either a coolermaster cosmos S or one of these: http://www.mountainmods.com/computer...o5ubivhpn50n95 as for the cpu either this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819117163 or this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819117138 as for graphics look at these: http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro_fx_5600_4600.html
p.s.-i know some of the stuff is newegg, but thats just to give you an idea
edit: or this: http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro_fx_4700_x2.html

if you actully going to overclock, if i remember correctly a mix of sticks tends to work better, FUGGER had like 6gb worth of 2gb sticks then a pair of 1gb sticks with a higher fsb or something like that, it gives you the ability to oc if you want to and its generally faster, and im only gunna be gone for about 5 hours, and i dont have msn sorry =\

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=176078 heres the link to the skulltrail board, and the way its used, i woudl recommend that you get 6-1 terabyte drives, and putting them in raid 5, how limited is the budget anyway?
edit: im gunna be gone for 5 hours now
