Somehow new hard disk (purchased from a store three days ago) started to fail when writing data to it. The worst thing is that the one I owned before acted the same way.
Here is an explanation: I bought a used Zitech laptop computer, and the Toshiba Ultra Ata 100 hard disk seemed to have some bad sectors, full format by windows xp setup won't work (would try to format for a few hours, 80 percent done and then error). Quick format worked, Parition Magic did not see any errors, all operations worked. Alright, windows xp work, no problems. Then I set BitTorrent to download various things, files ranging from kilobytes to one gigabyte. Everything works fine. After a few days I left the computer turned on during night, and when I checked it in the morning, I see there are errors writing to the disc (writing big files), I hear some strange noises from the disk. Tried restarting - the same, when writing files. Wanted to install a small application - cannot write, computer almost stops responding. There was a second partition on the disk, so I installed windows there - yeah, it worked, no errors writing, small downloads and installion of small applications work, and then when I started downloading a big file (one gb), again the same. But still can write not big files to hd (for example, 20 mb). I suspect something wrong was with the hard disk. Okay, a new Seagate utlra ata-100 160 gb. Installed, partitioned, installed windows. Everything's alright. Installed BitTorrent, started downloading some torrents. Another day I turned on the computer, started downloading various torrents (big and small) and it has been going for 24 hours without shut down - everything worked right. Left it for another night turned on, and in the morning I see exactly the same error as was with previous HD: error writing to hd; and that is regarding big files - other torrents - 700 mb, 140 mb and 10-40 - all files are downloaded without errors and are still being downloaded. Mozilla Firefox won't start: says something wrong with some dll file. Checked with Seatools: all tests passed, temperature - 38 C (90 F). Everything's right. Parition Magic find no erros, but suddenly I see that the primary partition (where windows xp is) is gone, says it is unformatted. other partitions - the ones where I was downloadin files to, - are okay. What is wrong then? Why does the new hdd goes wrong like the old one? What could be the reasons for this thing and what is it? Could it overheat due the fact that it's been on for 36 hours? But Seatools shows that it is only 38 degree C - it is not too much, is it? |

man you've tested sooo many hard drives, don't you think there could be something wrong with the drive connector of the laptop itself or it could be dying ?
temp readings can sometimes go wrong mate |

my guess: bad luck.
hearing clicks from a hard drive is all internal.. it has nothing to do with the rest of the computer. if your file system is corrupt then i suggest using a different computer. it could be an unstable processor, memory, or motherboard. somewhere in there the files are getting corrupted wether on the hard drive, when being processed, or something. it doesnt have to be the hard drive unless those clicking noises is wat really did screw you up. i suggest getting a new computer, it could be that your current one is not properly cooled, or it could be that it has some slightly defective or over-used parts. computers dont last forever. dont tell me that it doesnt get hot.. because if its not properly cooled it won't get hot on the outside. that would indicate proper evacuation of heat.
