Need urgent help with a corrupted folder.

I have about 300gigs worth of stuff on my external hardrive in separate folders. Today when I tried to open my movies and music folder it said the file was corrupt and unreadable. I could view all my other folders except those two. How can I fix this stuff. Its is five years worth of stuff I have been gathering and I dont want to lose it.
