Question Overclocked E8400, check the temps please.

So my buddy is overclocking his E8400(air cooled system) from 3.0Ghz to 3.6Ghz. He is idoling at 45C and peaking under load at 60C. How good are these overclock temps?

Thanks

the temps are acceptable, they are about the same as mine. i wouldnt advise going any farther without better cooling though, because any more voltage might be too much.

Those are terrible for that low of an overclock. I never breach 50-55C at full load at 4.5ghz!

dont overvolt it in my opinion. get a thermaltake big typhoon and read the directions carefully its worth the $50 to lower temps by a lot. my proc never gets above 45C on double prime95 or any other stress test.

With good cooling you should never go over 50c, even in a warm room.

the E8400 is know to have buggy/faulty temperature sensors. My CPU idles at 45C and generally does not read a temperature above 45C (I got it to once using a stress test with an Intel temp sensor, but that was it). I don;t have it OCed, but still there should be some fluctuation in the temp.

Based on my knowledge of CPUs, I would imagine that the true idle temp would be significantly lower then this (I would estimate it is actually idling in the high 20's to low 30C range), but the temp sensor is "stuck"

Based on these known issues I would take any temp readings with a grain of salt.
