Back in the heydays of the Athlon XP, AMD was the undisputed king of the chip makers. Times have changed though, and Intel has regained the performance lead by a pretty sizeable margin. For me, it's all about performance, so my machines run on Intel processors. If AMD ever regains the lead in processors, I'd go back in a heartbeat. Unfortunately it doesn't look like that'll happen anytime in the near future.
