Angry Video Card Not At Full Capacity!!!

I have a XFX 8600 GTS XXX which is the oc'ed version and I wanted to compare my peformance to other cards with 3DMark 06 and I compared my tests and for some reason I have around the same score as a slightly underclocked 8600gt......my drivers are up to date......WHATS GOING ON!!

My GPU / Regular XFX 8600 GTS XXX

Overall Score: 4617 / 6309 (irrelevant because of CPU differance)
SM3.0/HDR: 2083 / 2241
SM2.0: 2214 / 2507

The scores shouldn't really bat THAT much different, if you are just talking about one regular 8600 GTS, and one overclocked 8600 GTS. Did you just replace the Card, or are the tests with two different computers? If so what are the specs of all both?

^^ That's the problem. Benchmarking doesn't only look at the videocard, they look at the Processor, Ram and such and it seems to me that you have a Quad Core compared to a Single Core.

The MOBO plays a big part in it too. Don't forget the GPU is attatched to the MOBO.

Exactly, the test computer has much better specs than yours which is why you are getting the results. Even if the benchmark is just for the graphics card, other components namely the processor and motherboard can still bottleneck the graphics card.

the cards have to be tested on identical hardware for it to be valid, its like taking a radeon 3450 on a skulltrail motherboard with 8gbs of ram and all the cores at 5 ghz, and then taking tri sli and then putting a 1.5ghz celeron on it, but what really matters is the actual game performance
