Default HDD isnt detected on vista and xp install

I tried installing vista premium lite and xp on my new HDD but the HDD isnt showing up when I install. On vista it says device drivers are missing and on xp it just says no HDD was detected. The disk makes some stranging buzzing noise every 2 seconds that I havent heard on any other HDD. Im guessing this is DOA, am I right?

Tried a different Sata (i take it) port???

Tried a different power port???

and if that doesn't work, then yes DOA.

Yes, I tried both and nothing :/. I waited so long for this and I'm pretty ticked off now, this isnt the first DOA I have gotten from newegg.

You didn't connect both the molex and SATA power adapter did you? Also make sure you are using a power cable that comes directly off of the PSU, if you are using one that comes off of a fan then that may be the issue.

I did that once with an IDE drive by using the molex connector off the fan and the drive started smoking.

A customer of mine did that by somehow connecting a molex splitter cable so it was pumping 24 V into the HDD

He denied it of course
