Is your second computer a gateway? Does it hang up when it boots? I have a gateway somewhere in my house that has some setting "hard disk boot latency", what that means is that it gives the hard drive a few seconds to turn on before it goes to windows. Maybe you can find it in your bios(by hitting the DEL or any of the F Key's on top of the keyboard when the computer is starting) and increase the seconds by a few. If you set the time too short, it won't boot and it will hang up as you said. On both your computers, have you tried to run programs such as Ad-Aware or Spybot?
