Smile Why won't my laptop find my router?

Hi all

I've just bought my wife a cheap and cheerful laptop which claims to have wireless LAN capabilities. I have a Sky router which already has connected to it a desktop (hardwired) and a PS3 (wireless). If I plug the laptop directly in to the router it will find the internet & e-mail without a problem, however it won't find it wirelessly.

Using Vista, I'm going to Microsoft > Network and clicking on the add a wireless device button. It reprts back that no devices have been found.

Am I missing something ... ?

Thanks for reading.
