Default New Camera Technology

So yesterday Olympus/Panasonic announced a new technology based off of the Four Thirds technology... it's called Micro Four Thirds... and it's supposed to give the quality images of an SLR in a compact camera body, oh, yeah, and the cameras will use interchangeable lenses. Looks pretty cool, although I'm not that big of a fan of compact cameras... (I hate the feel of them.)

http://www.four-thirds.org/en/microft/index.html

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0808/08...fourthirds.asp

Basically it looks like it's Four Thirds without a mirror or optical viewfinder... (so the cameras won't be SLRs) I guess that means either an EVF or (shudder) live view will be used...

It'll also allow for smaller lenses than Four Thirds cameras use... although current Four Thirds lenses will apparently be compatible with an adapter.

Looks pretty cool...

Hmm... This is pretty interesting. Assuming the lenses do become smaller, as the pictures appear to depict, this should be a really nice new technology. Otherwise, it's a waste I mean, have you ever tried to hold an SLR with a 300mm lens and 2x multiplier on it? You need plenty of camera to hold onto!

I also find it slightly humorus how Panasonic (YAY) and Olympus (BOO) teamed up. At least with regards to point and shoots, Olympus has made some of the worst cameras out there. Though I did play with one of their top-of-the-line SLR's recently and it was pretty nice.

Yeah, I haven't been very impressed with Olympus point and shoots, I've never tried their SLR's though. I don't really get why they're making such a big deal about the E420... I mean, it may be small, but I WAY prefer big cameras... they're SOOOOO much easier to hold onto.

btw, what cam is that in your profile pic?

Nikon D40 with a 55-200 VR lens. It's among the smallest dSLRs and I can't see me using anything smaller

Ah! OK, I'm planning on getting a D60 soon... I'd prefer if it were bigger, but at least it's fairly comfortable to hold, a lot more so than the Canon Rebel series.

I'm already getting tired of the 1.6x crop factor of the smaller DSLR's.
