Default Upgrading Laptop Ram

I've recently been handed down my fiances Sony Vaio VGN-NR260D laptop because she has finished school. It's almost perfect for me except the speed. It's a dual 1.6 ghz with 2 gigs and was hoping if I throw another 1 or 2 gigs of ram into it that it'll speed up substatially. Any suggestions on ram and If it will fit or I have to replace the old with 2gig sticks? Couldn't find a interior picture of the laptop on the Vaio webpage and I dont feel like taking it apart if I really dont have to. Thanks alot.

Default

what OS is it?

no point putting 4gb of ram in a 32 bit windows desktop OS , it wont use more than like 3gb

do a search for a website called crucial. let it scan the machine. It will tell you how many slots you have, max supprted ram, what tupe etc...
