I've been getting a lot of speech bubble & IE popups telling me that I'm infected with spyware.

I've run Norton Antivirus, Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Hijackthis, and restarted, in that order a total of THREE TIMES and Spybot continues to pick up the Smitfraud virus. I can't get rid of it! Norton doesn't detect it.

I'm ready to go nuts. There's also something wrong that doesn't allow me to access my Task Manager. I can't get an answer on any forums as to what's wrong with my Hijackthis log. Here's the latest log. PLEASE HELP ME!

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

• Download this file from one of the three below listed places :
  
  http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
  http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
  http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
  
• Then double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
• When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

• Post the combo fix log
• Post a Fresh Hijackthis log

When I try to download Combofix, I get a message with a lot of misspellings that says I cannot rename Combofix as Combofix [1]. However, I never directed it to rename anything. I tried all 3 of your links and got the same message. I have never downloaded Combofix before and searched for it on my computer and came up with nothing.

I am left with no way to run Combofix.

Knock on wood, it seems that Smitfraudfix has solved the problems!

It was hard to get rid of but it didn't really disable my computer. Definitely different from other viruses I've experienced.

If I might add, my poor dad's laptop got infected with that crap, I ran Smitfraud fix on it and it seemed to do a good job of removing all the crap, along with supplementary scans with AVG and Spybot...decided I'd format his laptop though just because it hadn't been in the 3 years he's owned it.

What really bugs me though is the nerve of some of those people who make and distribute this malware nonsense...My Uncle had a similar ordeal and he was about to pay the rogue spyware company with his credit card just to get rid of all the pop ups.

Unbelievable.
