Default vista x86 to XP pro x64?

Is it possible to downgraed my OS from vista premium x86 to XP pro x64 bit?

I want to be able utilize the whole or most of the 8gb of memory i have.
What about the Phenom x4 processor i have will it run xp? im sure it will... Just want to make sure before I reformat my HD

Or should i stick with Vista and upgrade to x64 bit version?

I myself would go with Vista x64. I went back and forth between Vista and XP for a while but Vista finally won the battle. Good luck with whatever you decide.

a new question pertaining to this thread...

Does it matter about motherboards for OS 32 or 64 bit?

Cause it seems when i try to run my os either for XP pro 64 or vista 64 it says not compatible!!
I even try to right click the setup app and change the compatibilty option to windows 2000 from windows95 and i cant for eith er OS disc!
So what do i need to do for my OS to install??

Thanks

Not the motherboard, the processor. You need to have an processor EM64T compatible (Intel) or AMD64 compatible (AMD).

Run CPUz to see if your processor has 64-bit support (EM64T or AMD64).

And what exactly did you tried to do? Running the setup from windows? That won't work.
You need to restart your PC with a bootable CD/DVD with windows vista/xp x64 in your DVD/CD-ROM, access the boot menu and select the DVD/CD-ROM drive or select the boot order from BIOS settings so the dvd-rom drive is before the HDD.

Phenom CPUs are 64-bit, so you can run 64-bit OS fine. I do not recommend getting 64-bit version of XP as finding drivers for it is going to be a nightmare and chances are some of your hardware will be left without drivers.
