Default weird problem with second hard drive?

hi im having a weird problem when trying to add a second hardrive to my pc. both hardrives the new one and the origanal are ide drives but the problem is when i connect the second one (without the operating system on, its set to slave aswell) its boots and everything perfectly normally but when the desktop loads the popup says found maxter hardrive and then it crashes and all i can do is move the mouse but even the mouse is really slooow its like the mouse is all it can mange to process its really weird.

id anyone knows or has ever had this problem and manged to solve your help would be greatly appriecated

Dont know if this is the root of the problem yet or if I read that wrong. But you cant have 2 IDE devices hook up on one cable with both set as Slave. One Master-One Slave.

sorry thats just my bad wording one is master and one is slave any ideas what it could be casue im completally baffeled

Could be one is running in PIO while the other is in UDMA mode. Is this one older drive and a newer model. Have you tried booting into safe mode. If you can, check in the device manager and see what mode they are running in. If you have 2 IDE channels have you tried the drive in IDE 2?
