Default missing ram

I recently bought two sticks of ddr2-800 pc6400 2gig ram.
I have a p5b mother board with four slots. max ram is 8gig.

Now when i put this ram into my computer I only see 3 gig of ram. So I start to think, maybe one of the sticks is only 1 gig. So I put them in one at i time. Both sticks are 2 gig.
I am really confused why does it not show 4 gig ram?

Anyone help?

Default check your OS

If you are not seeing all four gigs of ram, the chances are that you have a 32-bit Operating System. You will only be able to see about 3 Gigs with 32-bit. That's not uncommon.

Default

32 bit versions of Windows only support up to something like 3.25 GB of RAM.
