Exclamation Hard Drive keeps computer from booting...

Hi,

About a year ago I bought a Western Digital 80 GB hard drive setp up as slave...with all my important files on it.

Something happened to my computer from one day to the next so that sure enough when I restarted my computer one day...my slave drive was called "corrupt". When I ran diagnotstic tools et cetera until my computer started to not even recognize that the hard drive existed. Now my computer will not even start with the hard drive connected...

I have tried switching the mode of the hard drive, and the lifeguard tools supplied with the drive obviously don't work.

This drive has very important things...and I would praise anyone who has seen a similar problem or who has a solution.

Thanks

I have Windows XP And the Hard Drive is 80GB 7200RPM 8 MB Cache...

you ran it as a slave in the dos environment? Using the lifeguard tools? What did that report? I know that software is not the best but it usually tells you if your drive is Kaput... Let me know, i hate WD aswell...

I have never had a WD fail on me. I have caviars from 10 years ago still running in servers in my basement. Connect it as master and see if it still tries to boot of the drive and if it fails/gives errors, what not.
