Hello. I built my friend this computer around 6 or so months ago. During the first month, it saw internet. After that, it didn't see any internet at all until a few weeks ago. Naturally, it updated with a bunch of Windows updates as soon as it was connected. When he rebooted, he got the BSOD. It sat for around a week and I came over. It booted right up for me, but it was slow once booted. I cleaned it up while I was there, hoping to find a virus or something, but it was clean. While I was doing this, it updated again. When I turned it off and restarted, I got the BSOD too.
It will only go into safe mode. Part of the BSOD says WFURD.SYS or something (I don't remember, I lost the paper that I wrote it on ). I found that this certain message usually came about when installing certain hardware items, mainly certain Motorola or Nokia (one of those two) products. If it helps, I have a hijack-this log for you guys. I don't know if it will help in this situation, but I guess it can't hurt:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 5:18:59 PM, on 9/12/2008 Platform: Windows Vista (WinNT 6.00.1904) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16711) Boot mode: Safe mode Running processes: C:\Program Files (x86)\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.ask.com?o=1607 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo!
