if the plug has pins sticking out, it's male, if there are holes in the connector, as in there can be pins inserted into it,....it's female

are you able to replace the cable which is on your monitor to your tower? or do you have to get a new monitor all together? or can you buy a new calbe and attach it into the old and the other end goes into the tower?

Well it depends one the purpose for replacing it. If the connectro fro your monitor that plugs inot the back up you tower is broken you may need to get it replaced... Easy wiring if you up for it, or you can have a profesional do it. If you damaged your video card or motherboard where you plug the cable into, it could be a little more expensive...

Yes i just had to repurchase the same adaptor for mu 9800... It was $15... I got a monitor cord extension also. My cord was too short and it kept pulling on the adaptor, finally broke.
