Default Friends Laptop KIA? help...

My friend and I have been try to get his laptop to work. His laptop recently...died? Well basically it didn't die, when you boot the pc, it turns on and boots up until that Windows Selection screen thing(where like say if the pc was turned off incorrectly or something it'd give you options such as, " Start Windows normally, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with CMD, etc") When either of these options are selected the laptop instantly turns off, does anyone know a fix for this? Is there a hardware issue ? Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

not sure about this but try a linux live cd and see if you can boot the comp, if it doesnt it could be the harddrive failing,

<im not an expert so maybe wrong>

If the computer is still under warranty, contact the manufacturer and explain to them what is wrong... if it is not and is the hard drive failing, it may be worth buying a new HDD.
