Default CPU Cooling help

Well, My computer just suddenly swiches off, After a while

Example, Running a load of applications will just restart, Won't shut down just restart

And when i'm playing big games

I think this is due to the cpu, Is there anyway i can test the temperture of it?

And as it's 3.0 gig p4 intel, What should the temp be?

hey,
my comp shuts down sometimes(especially when the ac is off) when its been on for more than 20-30 min.i opened the cpu and saw that the fan was running fine.i went to the system hardware monitor in bios and saw the following readings-]
vcore 1.565 v
vcc3.3vn 5.305 v
+12v 11.863v
sb5v 5.040v
vbat 3.152v
chassis fan speed 0 rpm
cpu fan speed 2784 rpm
system temp 40°C/104°F
cpu temp 44°C/111°F

plz help. i think its overheating but dont know what to do.could i possibly have a better fan or sumthing put or anything else to prevent overheating?
