Default Vista Copying Files... Freezes

i'm using Vista 64-bit, my specs are below.

everytime i try to copy files, from one drive to another, or from one place on a drive to another. it freezes up if i do anything while it's copy (i mean anything). i get the "not responding" warning and then the copying progress locks up. this only happens when i'm copying large files (1GB or more). the progress bar will turn red and it'll cancel or i have to go into task manager and end the process manually.

anyone have any insight on this? this never happened for me in xp. my drives are both fine, and it seems to happen on either drive. i do a lot of file copying, so it's annoying to have to let the computer sit until it's finished copying.

Did you install the SP1 update? SP1 is supposed to improve file transfers.

ya SP1 didn't fix anything for me sadly. i was talking about 1 drive to another within the same computer. it also happens just copying a file on the same hd though.

i guess i'll use something else until microsoft gets this hammered away. thanks guys.
