Default keyboard problem

The keyboard on an old comp of mine has stopped working (Windows ME, Pentium 1.2 G, 256mb ram) I tried another keyboard so I know its not that. Would it be a hardware or software prob? I don't know much about hardware, any help appreciated.

did you try the old keybard in a differnet machine - did it work?
did you try a new keyboard in the old machine - did it work?

if both keyboards dont work, and one of them DOES work in other machines, then the keyboard port on your motherboard is shagged

depend were the damage is - i suppose technically you could solder on a new one but that would be quite an undertaking unless you confident with electronics. Personally i think its time for a new mobo.
