yeah, 939.
when i boot my pc with 2 sticks in dual combination, windows runs but no program will work. ive never seen that before. say i go to explorer it closes the window right away. i go to steam - all my games are gone. i take one stick off and everything works fine again

Wow that is odd indeed. Is it safe to assume you installed windows xp with one stick of 512 and then added the other afterwards? If so then maybe you might want to try installing the other then reinstalling windows. I know this sounds odd but your situation is an odd one . Just a thought anyhow.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that is the problem. As a matter of fact if it is I'm willing to bet its extremely rare but your problem is a strange one assuming you have 2 good and compatible sticks of ram. I've added ram as countless others without a problem with windows of course. but when you add a second stick of ram like that and a problem like that arises then I would try reinstalling windows myself is all.
