So I installed Vista yesterday and I have a question. In the system tray the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon appears and when I click on it, it gives me the option to safely remove my hard drive and DVD drive. Obviously I do not want to remove either one of these and I'm wondering why this popped up. Any insights are appreciated.

That's always seen there. When right clicking on the Start taskbar for properties you have the option to hide icons there from view. Simply open the Notification area tab and click on customize to bring out the drop down menu next to any item to select one of the three choices of always show, always hide, and hide inactive.
