Default Laptop booting issue with artifacts and BSOD.

First and foremost thank you all for your time reading and consideration with this computer issue. I have invested a lot of my own time attempting to address this issue.

The computer is a laptop, a HP Pavilion dv9000.

Each of these images I will explain where in the boot process this took place and some details on it. I apologize for the flash glare on the screen.

This first image is before and after the HP symbol comes up on the screen, this image taken afterwarsd as it attempts to boot from the CD (An Ubuntu CD I had from my other PC.) As you can see, where text would be and the "a" artifact would be, the text is replaced by a random symbol. The computer continues on the boot process until after the Windows symbol and scrolling green bar during Windows load. Booting in normal mode, it will then do one of two things. The computer will BSOD, or the screen will go black. Attempting to use the function to change display device does not do anything when I receive the black screen.

Upon restarting the computer after a BSOD or black screen, I receive the option to boot in safe mode. This image shows how the "a" artifacts interfere with the lettering on the screen in more detail than the first image. It also does this in choosing what safe mode to use, I can only navigate it by memory.

This final image is a close up of the previous picture, for a larger view of what it is doing.

The computer will boot in safe mode, but there are light green vertical stripe artifacts across the background. These do not impede with OS processes. The "a" artifacts impede with attempted installation of additional OS's by doing the same as any other part of the boot process.

Any help would be most appreciated, this is far beyond my league.

Regards,
Kurt
