Default Cannot send files between home computers...please help

Hi, I am having trouble with my 2 home computers. Both computers are connected to a hub which is connected to a cable modem. Both computers are able to connect to the internet. Both computers are using win xp home. I was never able to connect the two computers into a network and not planning to in the near future.

I used to be able to send large files between the computers back and forth with speeds of around 0.9mb/sec on MIRC. However, i stopped and now i would like to send a file to my other computer again...but this time, i can't. When i am using mirc, compB cannot get into my fserve to retrieve any files and when compA tries to push the file, it does not connect. Both computers are able to connect and retrieve from other fserve...

I then searched on the internet and done a few tests. CompA has a ip that starts with 24.xxx...and compB ip starts with 69.xxx.... their default gateway starts with the same numbers but different end numbers. CompA's subnet is 255.255.255.128 and compB's subnet is 255.255.255.0...just now i changed the compB's subnet to 255.255.255.128 but kept the 69.xxx ip and tried sending files again and it would not work. I am using cable internet so i don't think i can change the ip address.

CompA used to have norton internet security 05 installed...but because of the problem, it has been uninstalled. I have tried to disable the window's firewall on both computers but it still does not work. I went into dos command and tried to ping the other computer but it came back request timeout....both computers are able to ping other computers across the world but just not each other. The only way i found that i could send files is using MSN but it sends at a very slow rate.

I used to be able to send files between the computer a few months ago using the same current specs...but i don't know why it doesn't work now. I don't know if the different ip make any difference, but when i tried to ping other computers with different ip, it still work....both computers can send and recieve files from other computers but just not each other. I checked pretty much everything and there doesn't seem to be any block between the computers....

2 seperate ip was purchased from the isp so that i am able to use my current setup...2 comp connected to hub---hub connected to cable modem....I would just like to know how i can get it so i can send files between the two computers again. I'd like to keep using internet based apps to send files rather than trying to get the windows networking to work since i have been trying for the past 2 days

What OS? Try running the network setup wizard and make sure both computers are in the same workgroup. hope this helps, let us know.

They are not on a network, both computers are using windows xp home SP2. This is basically just trying to send a file from one computer to the other using the internet...like me sending a file to you...but i can't for some reason...

The easiest thing would be to creat a network, that way you can send files from one compute to other directly. If its a faily samll file, why not just email the file to yourself, and than download it on the other computer.

If you want to the network, do what randruff said, run the network setup on each computer, and this should solve your problem.

Im simply trying to send files from one computer to the other using the internet...but it doesn't let me like theres sumthing blocking it...
