Default E8400 Refuses to Overclock!

Just today, i got a new Antec 900 and a Xigmatec s-1283 heatsink for my E8400. (if you want my specs just check my sig.) The chip works wonderfully up to 3.8ghz, where it seems to hit a wall. it will do 3.6ghz on stock volts, and 3.8 on only a very small voltage bump.

Now does somebody want to tell me why i can't hit 4ghz?!

I have pumped 1.42V through this chip (excessive, i know... but my temps are under 65C load) but no matter what i do, Orthos or Prime95 fails within 15 seconds. i have loosened my ram's timings to 6-6-6-18 @1000mhz, which is plenty for the sticks i have. The ram is set to 2.4V as per OCZ's recommendations. I have tried changing my northbridge to 1.4V, but that made no difference either.

im pulling my hair out here! i've heard of people getting to 4ghz on 1.35V easy!

That I7 is starting to look like a whole lot sweeter now

J/k.

I have read that some of E8400's dont Oc clock as well as others. This includes some members on these forums. It might be just luck of the draw.I may be wrong but I think omega had one he had trouble hitting 4.0 with. And Some people get one that Oc like Mad like the one Thatguy16 has

Yeah whether you have a dual or quad core from the graphs I have seen as long as you get 3.4 or better the fps gain is minimal

i dont think thats the problem, i've never had issues clocking as high as 1150mhz at these timings.

with a few hours of effort, i finally read that the C0 stepping loves high voltages. so i changed it to 1.45 in the bios, and its a miracle! stability!
