Ntl Broadband Problem

Hi guys, got a problem with my Ntl Broadband, I would be very grateful if you could help out.

When I connect the box to my computer, it notifys me that its connected but no websites or anything works. Pinging other sites including www.ntlworld.co.uk dont work. However on some freinds computers (in a diffarent area) it works. Im not sure whether it is something to do with the area or something to do with my computer. Well...i hope not lol.

Having internet back would be a great relief. Any help much appriciated. Thanks

when you say "box" do you mean digi box or cable modem?

Sounds like you might have a firewall up. If you do, that could be preventing you from accessing outside sites. Check your router if you have one, and any software on your computer that might be serving as a firewall, such as zonealarm or the microsoft secuity center. Also check if you are getting an ip address (start, run, type in 'cmd' than 'ipconfig')

well me and my dad had the same problem what he needed to do was Unplug the Modem and reinstall it on his machine and everything worked fine

if it's a set top box

open up network connections and get to the point were you can click repair ( i think it gets you a new ip address).

turn off / on the set top box (ie unplug the mains lead) then click repair on the pc. make sue you do this before the middle light stops flashing.

Should do the trick.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Im not sure what a top box is although i tried your suggestion martin, though it didnt work. Im also pretty sure I took all firewalls off and still no luck. However I tried the cmd ipconfig and i am getting an ip address. I also retried the ping command, and it worked this time. I pinged my own ip address, worked, pinged www.ntlworld.co.uk, worked and pinged others...everything worked. But internet (explorer) still didnt work, neither did my p2p program (sharaza) or msn.

download firefox. msn and ie are in cahoots, so alot of the time if ie doesnt work, nor will msn. go to www.e-messenger.net for the mean time until msn is sorted

i have this problem sometime if my IE isnt working my Msn will still work i can send u IE zipped up via msn ...or this message board
