Default memory card issues

I have a 2gb Polaroid SD card. It has a bunch of songs on it and I leave it in my car stereo. Well, I wanted to put more songs on it but it says its write-protected, but there is no lock switch on it. I don't know if there ever was one but there is this little slot on the side. I tried covering it with tape, but that didn't work. any help?
