Default inexpensive NAS Solution, Are they ALL so slow?

I purchased two Trendnet TS-S402's with hopes of using them for mirrored storage solutions, one at home and one for a client of mine.

Well, I setup the one at my home with two 640gb WD drives and man is it SLOW! It took 18 hours for 160gb of data to tansfer. Thats WAY too slow.

Are they all this slow? Does anyone know of faster units?
Are the USB attached units that support mirroring any faster?
