Default Upgrade or not to upgrade

With the gift-giving season under way, I've decided that I *might* want to upgrade my sound card. I have the logitech z-5500 connected to my onboard audio which is the Realtek ALC888 (my mobo is the GA-P35-DS3L). Supposedly, some people say that Realtek ALC888 is better or the same as a lot of other more expensive sound cards.

All in all, I am content with what I have, but I've always wondered what it might be like if I got a better card. What kills me most is that I don't have the opportunity to hear the differences between different cards.

I like to play games, watch movies and listen to musics...all the general things. If I do decide to upgrade, I'd like to keep my limit $100 or under, but I may go over if the upgrade is worth it.

So, I'd like to know what sound cards do you guys suggest? Or should I just keep what I have?

if it is possible to buy a card but take it back if your not satisifed go for it-if you dont like it take it back!!!

i have read peoples reviews on sound cards and it seams that if you do have a good speaker setup you can tell the difference in sound quality!

Here's the forum that discusses the Realtek ALC888 and other sound cards http://forums.anandtech.com/messagev...&enterthread=y.

I don't think there are any stores around where I live that sells a lot of variety of sound cards.

Go to online stores, such as Newegg or Tigerdirect.
