Addon controller cards are mainly to see storage drives and other devices added to the system and are not generally recommended for a boot device. Even with an external usb drive here the list of hard drives used to set the default boot device is never set to the usb drive since it is intended as a storage medium not a primary OS drive.
The limitations there are the same you would see with SCSI setup for faster access to storage devices but not as a boot device that the XP installer will recognise. The drivers for the card are generally installed after Windows is already installed on an internal host drive ide or sata where XP may need a driver disk in order to see a sata drive depending on the onboard chipset. |

sounds like you may need to mark the partition as active

Is there another hard drive on the system there like the original ide model? The bios is seeing that as the default boot device. In the boot order section of the bios highlight "hard drives" and press enter to see if a list of hard drives comes up.
The sata drive if seen there is likely seen under the original drive if still in the case. The sata has to be moved to the top of that list if seen to see it set as the default boot device. |
