Lately someone else asked if it was possible to install ubuntu 8.10 onto an 8gb usb flash drive where I explained if simply copying a live for cd iso image onto it failed you would have to partition and format it for Linux. Apparently that person had working results from What was heard later from the same source when the drive was successfully partitioned, formatted, and ubuntu installed onto it.

So in other words, he has no clue whatsoever. But his Post made it sound like he did, huh?

Anyway... http://www.debuntu.org/how-to-instal...nux-on-usb-bar

I have not personally done that (never had the need to) so I cannot vouch for it's accuracy, but Debuntu is a fairly decent and respected website, so I doubt they would steer folks wrong.

Than again, CF is incredibly respected, yet refer to Post #2...

I have , personally, partitioned and installed kubuntu 7.1 on my kingston 3gb flash drive. the debuntu method also works.

Don't plan on any long term installation since they tend to degrade after a period of time. While you can partition and format pen drives and sticks easily enough the information can also be lost easily as well. They were never designed for any long term storage but temp transfers of data and one means of rescuing a system.

i only did so because i despise the windohs chop up we have at school. at 'idle' it uses 60% cpu on an e2610 or something. it sucks. so we generally just go about and clear the cmos to allow boot other in bios. they want us to be productive - then have computers that freeze while using a web browser and MS Word.

If the systems aren't well maintained after everyone is done using them you can expect to see problems like that. The teachers will simply give up trying to undo any changes that students make until the person who sets them up has the time to go through them and bring them back.

Besides ubuntu one of the easiest now to get familiar there are several other rather small distros you could see tried out on a pen drive like Zenwalk, Mephis, Gentoo, Darnsmall, Puppy, etc. That's if you want to see a different "flavor of the month" anyways!

You couldn't vouch for a hole in the ground!

I didn't have to post any links to explain that this wasn't difficult task to begin with. In fact any search can pull up a good number of links for "pendriveLinux" or some other tutorial. Gee? How about Red Devil's Blog on this. http://reddevil62-techhead.blogspot....usb-flash.html

Or maybe, http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2007/01...-x-ubuntu-610/
or even the ubuntu wiki seen at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent

But then most wouldn't see the other side of the request when another reply came in:

"Thank you for the advise
i v been a bit busy but ill try to say online more often to up ex and stuff uh so far iv got the wireless to work but i hav 1 small bug so far when i made the partition the install left no free space in the filesystem root so installing updates is a little difficult right now i downloaded them but cant install them im trying to work it out ill keep you posted and let you know how it works out with solution in the case someone else has a smillar problem..."

"...they may hav got as far as i managed to thanks again for advice ill start working on guide with pics and all as soon as i configure everything to my liking and fix minor bugs at which i ll start over again to find and or make an easier path and way of doing so more effeciently with no bugs or counter productive nonsense
basically to design a more simple guide that boosts security at which is most peoples concern when entering a new OS ie firewall and anti virus setup in last /optional part of tutorial."

Well, I *can* vouch that uninstalling USB drivers wont, in fact, 'trash Windows'. No, I will *never* let you live that down, so long as we're both Forum members. Ass.

Are you talking about this dribble:

Because I fail to see how that solved the issue.

You didn't have to Post any links because you were too busy stumbling over words. For someone who talks a lot of shit, you never seem to say anything.

I'm not sure what that has to do with the price of tea in China, but...huh? It's a well-known fact that anyone on CF who:
A) has any sort of computer knowledge, and
B) has more than 25 Posts, or
C) isn't a complete idiot
laughs at you every time you Post. Judging from the text-speak those alleged responses were in, my bet would be that they fall under the 'C' category.

Another day, another piss-poor Post by the forum Clown. How much longer Mods? Seriously - I know you see it. I know it pisses you off.

Do. Something.
