Default shuttle x h/drive memory

I acquired this ShuttleX 6 weeks ago from my son. He bought it 2nd hand from Ebay in July this year. It will be nearly 3 years old now I guess. It has a 160 gig hard drive and 4 gig RAM. When he had finished installing everything for me the spare disk space was 137 gig (I run on Vista). I have put nothing on (but I have downloaded short films then deleted them). The spare disk space is now showing 120 gig? If you read this PC Eye, you helped me out with my previous computer which was 4 years old and losing disk space because of the age you said, Is this the same reason? 17 gig lost in 6 weeks ?
