Hi all, I recently upgraded my RAM from two 1g sticks that came with my computer to two 2g sticks, pc8500 at like 1037 mh or something.
4g total, though I know I don't utilize all of that with my 32 bit Vista system, but I knew it would still be better than my old RAM. But I just noticed that my Task Manager screen shows that I am using on average 29% of available physical memory. I never looked at this before when I had my 1g sticks in there, so I am not sure if that is normal or not. It seems awfully high considering I am just sitting at my desktop with a single internet window open. Is that saying I am using 29% of my 4gigs? Or is RAM different than physical memory? I tried looking it up but can't find the info, sorry I'm kind of new to upgrading computers. =) |

Uh oh! I also just noticed that CPU-Z is saying my max bandwidth is PC2-6400 (400 MH). That's not right.... it is 8500 at 1066mh. Did I need to do something with the BIOS? I just pulled the old ones and stuck the new ones in and turned on the machine...
Any help is greatly appreciated. Last edited by lordstaimot; 12-17-2008 at 02:25 AM. Reason: Corrected the 1066mh |

32 bit OS's will only see 3.5Gb of RAM, 64 bit will see 128Gb of RAM.
29% is normal, im using 33% of 4Gb with just windows and firefox open, so you dont need to worry about it. You dont need to say sorry, its what we are here for ![]() Hope that helps

That does help, thank you very much.
Do you by any chance know where I go in my BIOS to make changes to the memory speed? It seems to be only running at 400Mh instead of the 1066Mh it should be running at. I have an ASUS P5n-E SLI motherboard. |

your board uses DDRII 6400 (800mhz) so it wont run at 1066 only 800mhz but you wont notice the difference. let me how you get on
