Default Hard Drive not recognized

My dad just bought a new seagate 1tb hard drive off of Newegg. We installed it today and it wasnt recognized in the disk manegment thing. is it dead? This is the second attempt at adding a hard drive to his computer. The first one did the same thing

you need to install the SATA drivers for that RAID controller. Press F6 after booting off XP disc(at start of blue screen) then press 'S'. Second option(ACHI)
