I read somewhere that it's best to run only 3 ram slots on a triple channel board.
Such as it would be better to run 2.2.2 than say 2.2.2.1.1.1, even through the 2nd one has a larger total. Does that make sense, and is it true? Is there some performance decrease for filling all the slots? I understand that you need to install 3 sticks of the same specs. What would run faster filling the slots with 2.2.2 or 1.1.1.1.1.1? thx |

Yea, it really depends on what mobo you get and the speed it supports.
But damn, seeing the X58 with 12GB of Corsair Dominators were just a computer enthusiast's wet dream.

Asus P6T Deluxe Intel X58 Chipset is the motherboard.
I guess I was just a little confused by reading that installing in all 6 slots isn't the best way to go. So 2.1.2.1.2.1 is what it would look like to do it right? It will have 3gigs on it, but after awhile I'll probably put in 6 more as the price drops. |
