Default Canon Xl2 Firewire Problems

I need a little help. I have a Toshiba laptop that I need to setup as a field monitor for a Canon Xl2. However, my laptop doesn't have a firewire port, so I went to bestbuy and bought a Dynex Firewire 800 ExpressCard. I installed the card as the instructions stated. Yet, my Camera isn't seen by my computer. I checked in Device Manager and the express card shows to be operating normally and working. I tried a different camera and it didn't work either. I went to my Desktop using the same firewire "wire" and cameras and they both work fine. My laptop has Vista and my desktop is running Xp. I'm guessing a software issue or a Microsoft issue, I didn't find any hardware conflicts and still didn't work in safe mode. I have little experience with Express Cards and issues related to them, any help would be greatly Appreciated. Thanks.
