Wo, another Pentax shooter. That is indeed rare lol.
Well, if you have the lens mounted correctly, then it should work. However you have to be in Manual mode. What lenses does you mom have? Bob

When you mount the lens and then turn on the camera are you prompted to choose the lens focal length on the read lcd?
When using old lenses, you have to manually enter the focal length, however even if you don't, you should still be able to use the lens. Bob

Would you be able to give me the exact name & model of the lenses that you are using?
Do they happen to be "K" mount or are they "M42" etc? All the old lenses that I have are "M42" aka "Screw mount" and when I attach them to the camera body I have to select the desired focal length, since the camera can not "read" that info from the lens. So If I'm using a 55mm lens I would have to select 55mm for the focal length when it prompts me. If your using a zoom, you would select the longer focal length. So take 70-200mm, you would use the 200mm. The way you should mount it should be: - Turn the mode dial to M (Manual mode) - Turn the camera off - Take off the kit lens, or what ever lens your using - Mount up the old lens - Turn the camera on and within a few seconds on the back lcd screen, you should be prompted to set the desired focal length. That should at least get the camera working with the lens. Although, if my memory serves me right, there might have been a menu setting that needs to be tweaked. So I'll look into that for you. Bob

This might be worth a try.
Under "Menu" and then sub menu "Custom Setting", scroll to where it says "Using aperture ring and make sure that is on number 2 (Permitted). Give that a quick go.

Awesome
Glad we were able to get it working. Would you still be able to find out the exact brand and model of the lenses. I'm curious to see if your mom had any real gems. Bob
