Default newbie needs laptop

Hello,

I need a laptop for school work, wathcing dvd movies, playing some games, and other multimedia. I don't want a Dell, Gateway, or HP. I want a pentium chip. I've never had a laptop before so are there any recommendations on what to look for? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for laptop sellers? Acer or Hypersonic perhaps?

I have a compaq presario, costed 1200; p4 2.8, with an ATI Radeon 9000, I can play HL2, Unreal, Halo, all the sorts, runs nicely. Look for Ram, Video card, and how much Ramn the goes to video, if you get a 32MB reserved for video...not so good. 64 or 128 is good. As for sellers, Newegg.com, but I got mine at Compusa, as I dont trust big items being shipped, especially of this price. Hope that helps.

Check this Sony Vaio out. It seems perfect for your needs and this website is currently selling it for the cheapest. I bought my other vaio from Clearance Club and i just loved their service and incredible prices.

if you have a video card it won't be using you system RAM, it will use the memory in the video card. Unless you use integrated graphics, which will use an allocated amount of memory to be dedicated to video.
