Default Buying more RAM

I have a comp with 4gb and Vista OS. I am trying to use it to edit graphics and keep loosing functionality in photoshop. I think I need more memory and/or downgrade to XP. What do you think?

Also in looking at RAM I am considering upgrading to 8gb(dual channel) but I don't know what companies are making good stuff. Can anyone recommend a good 4 gb dual channel memory stick pack(2 per pack)?

Thanks,
Shadrach
